The power went out right as the storm began, so the times are approximate. Most of the storm passed around us, but we may have gotten the worst of the blow here. Hail began shortly after the rain and in an occurrence we haven't seen since a known tornado in 1979, hail, rain, and wind hit the house from all 4 directions, intermittently. Limbs and debris didn't follow the straight-line pattern we have always seen (but once), it was (still is) scattered in every direction from the various sources.
My elephant ear plants, with leaves about 2-2.5' long, show the most evident damage with slits and holes in them on average about 4-5" apart and from 1.5-2" long, and every leaf in the large 6' diameter bunch shows damage, as do the adjacent canna lilies.
I went out on our covered back porch to try to collect hail, but the wind was blowing too hard and our big 600-pound female rescue pig was somewhat freaked out, so calming her was my focus. What I could see that had bounced off the wheelchair ramp and onto the porch was from pea-size up to grape size, some white, some clear.
Today, we have limbs down up to 4" diameter including a sapling slash pine about 3" in diameter snapped off about 3' above ground. |
