Description:
A dry week, giving May a monthly total of 0.82", 35.7% of normal. ETo total for the month 1.86". Continued mix of marine layer days and sunny days, with highs in the low 50s to 70, and lows mid 40s to low 50s. Ruth Lake at 100% on May 29. Mad River 6 ft. and 100 cfs/Eel River at Scotia 9.75 ft. and 863 cfs. Trinity River in low/mid 50s and the ocean offshore in the low 50s. California drought map gives "no drought" north of San Francisco and Sacramento, but all levels of drought as you go south to the Mexican border. All 3 common hummingbirds here--Anna's, Allen's and Rufous--showing up at the feeder. Mourning Dove appeared, which has happened in the past, but not commonly seen at my location. Fields still green but noticed irrigation equipment out in some areas. Mckinleyville has its "Pony Express Days" festivities on June 7, though Mckinleyville had nothing to do with that short-lived mail service. And shucks, almost forgot Arcata's huge Oyster Festival coming up on June 14.
Oysters, raw or cooked, and the Oyster Calling Contest, too. Thousands will be showing up for that on the Arcata Plaza that day.
